Batya Gil Margalit, a former metalsmith who now works with fused glass, discussed her work. Recently she has experimented with different sands and minerals that she collects throughout Israel and combines with metal in the fused glass. The materials form her color palette for her large glass pieces, some abstract and some with figurative images. Born in Canada, Margalit is a graduate of Bezalel Art Academy where she studied jewelry design. A resident of Western Galilee, she has worked as a designer for the Cabrian jewelry factory in Kibbutz Cabri, was both a freelance artist and artistic coordinator for Andrias Meyer glass factory, and has taught at the Tel Hai Academy. Her work has been seen in many exhibitions, including a group show in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and in the past two glass biennials at the Israel Museum in Tel Aviv.
