Deirdra Stockman and Megan Masson-Minock spoke on "Urban Food Systems Planning and Practice."
To accommodate growing interest in reshaping urban food production, distribution and consumption, cities across the country are engaging in planning processes, updating zoning codes, and amending city ordinances. This emerging local policy trend is likely to continue due to growing awareness of food safety, security and equity issues as well as the continued local impacts of state and corporate decision-making in the food system.
The presentation was part of the Local Food Systems Conference held at the Toledo Hilton. The conference aimed to bring together both academics and practitioners to share their knowledge, experience, and expertise with regard to developing and maintaining local food systems in old industrial regions.
