Mary Donnell, Donnell and Associates, spoke on "Green City Growers Cooperative."
Green City Growers Cooperative is building a 5-acre leafy green hydroponic greenhouse in urban Cleveland as part of the Evergreen Cooperative family of businesses. The mission of the cooperatives is to provide employment and build wealth for residents of five at-risk neighborhoods surrounding University Circle which has large medical, educational, and cultural institutions which purchase $3 billion of goods and services annually.
The presentation was part of the Local Food Systems Conference held at the Toledo Hilton. The conference aimed to bring together both academics and practitioners to share their knowledge, experience, and expertise with regard to developing and maintaining local food systems in old industrial regions.
