Commemorating 1808: Fighting for the Right to Dream

New Jersey Congressman Donald Payne will gave the commemoration's keynote.  Earlier this year, Payne sponsored a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives pushing for a commission to recognize the 200th anniversary of the enactment of the Act to prohibit the importation of slaves.  The conference will feature speakers tracing the legal and political underpinnings that propped up the American slave trade, "Cycle of Optimism and Despair."

Sponsored by the University of Toledo College of Law and the Graduate Program in Policy History of Bowling Green State University.
