Coastal Sand Dunes in the Great Lakes Region
Description
The Lake Erie Center’s featured speaker was Dr. Timothy Fisher, Interim Director of the Lake Erie Center, Departmental Chair for Environmental Sciences and Professor of Geology. His talk was titled "Coastal Sand Dunes in the Great Lakes Region." Dr. Fisher discussed the geographical distribution of sand dunes around parts of the Great Lakes, why they are mostly absent from western Lake Erie, what dunes can tell us about past water levels in the Great Lakes basins, and how the study of vegetation on coastal sand dunes in Indiana contributed to the concept of ecological succession.
