A Miami River Food Model of Food Cooperative Organizing
Description
Run Time: 31:29
Jake Schlachter and Laura Hanson, The Miami River Foods Project spoke on "A Miami River Food Model of Food Cooperative Organizing."
Despite the proliferation of food cooperatives in the movement to reconfigure local food distribution systems, emerging co-ops often struggle to overcome initial organization barriers. Start-ups frequently lack one or more of the four cornerstones of cooperative development: vision, systems, talent, and/or capital.
The presentation was part of the Local Food Systems Conference held at the Toledo Hilton. The conference aimed to bring together both academics and practitioners to share their knowledge, experience, and expertise with regard to developing and maintaining local food systems in old industrial regions.
